ISO 22000 is a harmonized and process-oriented food safety standard that can be applied by any organization in the food supply chain, to include the supply of raw materials and transportation. The standard specifies the minimum requirements for business risk management, thereby applying the Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) in accordance with the Codex Alimentarius. But it also demonstrates compliance with the requirements of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and establishes the implementation of preventive programs.
The standard is aimed particularly at organizations aimed at achieving objectives, at acting consistently and having a more integrated food security management system, above and beyond the usual legal requirements.
The benefits of having this certification are:
- Integration of risk analysis procedures and prevention programs in reference to food safety.
- Increased product safety and reduced liability risk for the product.
- Improvement of the trust of the clients, the suppliers and the official control authorities at an international level.
- Holistic consideration of the entire organization, as well as safe and efficient flows with respect to hygiene and health protection.
- Compliance with a variety of requirements of different food standards.
- Easy integration into existing management systems, such as ISO 9001 or ISO 14001.
